One of our veteran prayer warriors sent us this story from the sidewalk that gets to the heart of what we’re doing “out there”. She has requested, anonymity, and so it shall be:
Soon after beginning my morning shift, I was passing a woman waiting at the bus stop. We smiled at each other. When I returned again, I asked her if she was waiting for the bus, to which she replied “yes,” So I stopped and we began a conversation.
She said she was waiting for a phone call because she was trying to get an apartment for her boyfriend, who lives in temporary housing right now. After noticing that she only had a thin coat on, and with the brisk temps, I asked if she was warm enough. She said it wasn’t too bad.
She admitted she didn’t have a winter coat, so I asked if she had a pen and paper, so I could get her information to contact her. I also asked her to write down the size she wears, in case I could find a nice coat. She smiled and wrote down her number and name and size, and I told her my name. When her expected phone call came, I continued walking and just prayed that the Lord would bless her, and lead me to offer a little more on this cold morning.
When she finished her call, I asked if it was ok to share with her why I and the others were there. She agreed and read the signs. I simply said that the Lord has led me here, and I think today it was to meet her!
She smiled and said “Yes, I think so also.”
I shared further that we are here because we believe that when God creates every baby, he or she is precious and has value immediately.
She agreed, “Right there inside its mother, right from the start,” she stated definitively, with a big smile.
This woman has two grown children, and is thankful for them. Meeting her, and having this conversation was a gift to me this morning, and an encouragement of the Lord’s presence! Praise Him!”
Epilogue: Our author found her new friend a nice jacket!
